Breeders Assistant can predict the probability that an animal:
is homozygous for a given allele (i.e. carries 2 copies of the same allele). E.g. for predicting whether a recessive trait is likely to be expressed.
is heterozygous for a given allele (i.e. carries only 1 copy the given allele). E.g. for predicting whether an individual will be a carrier for a given recessive disease.
is homozygous or heterozygous for a given allele (i.e. carries 1 or 2 copies the given allele). E.g. for predicting whether a dominant trait might be expressed.
or in the case of a polygenic trait, the mean likely 'value'.
The calculation is done by examining the genotypes of a configurable number of generations of ancestors (max. 16).
It is possible to set 'background population probabilities' for individual polygenes and alleles. This is used in the calculation for any ancestor where the genotype is not stated.
The calculation can either be done for a specific animal in which case you get a detailed report for each gene covered, or it can be done for a set of animals in which case you get a report listing the animals in order of increasing or decreasing inheritance probability.
